“The situation of the Baltic Sea is not good because of us. Therefore, continued efforts to reduce the environmental impacts of agriculture, industries, maritime transport or fishing and also aquaculture are needed”.

Those were Estonia’s Prime Minister Jüri Ratas’ words during the opening ceremony of the 9th Annual Forum of EUSBSR – the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region – on 4th of June 2018 in Tallinn, Estonia.

Over a course of two days, 800 representatives of governments, international organisations, NGOs, universities, local and regional administrations and businesses came together to share their visions and concepts about the development of the Baltic Sea Region after 2020.

What is the current state of ecosystems in the Baltic Sea? How do we advance the Baltic Sea Region as a global digital hub? And how can we improve the implementation of the EUSBSR in the framework of the future EU Cohesion Policy? – These were some of the main questions that kept vibrant conversations running in the numerous sessions, and until late nights.
